A real classic you have probably read in school,
if you grew up in the northern/western hemisphere of
this planet. 1984 is a "negative utopia",
picturing a society in which everything is regulated,
where everyone spies upon everybody else, where rebels
The atmosphere is somewhere between the third Reich
and any public space today. This book is often quoted
by critics of surveillance, passports with biometric
data and generally whenever the issue of privacy comes
In my opinion, this book will always be up-to-date,
simply because privacy will always be an issue. Think
about your credit card, any bonus-system that tracks
your shopping behaviour, the government reading your
email and listeing in on your phone calls.
Yet, people will let other people invade their privacy,
if that act makes things more comfortable, just like
the credit card, online shopping at amazon an so forth.
